Feedback from a Customer

It’s been a while since we posted a blog. We find that it is hard during the busy summer months to get blog posts posted. We have lots of ideas and plenty of good intentions but limited time to sit and put those together into words and blog posts.

Today we suffered a rain out at Poplar Grove’s Farmers Market due to TS Beryl and so I thought I’d take a minute to share a fun and exciting note we received from a customer.

Hello. My name is Dre’a, and I am from Richmond, Virginia. I was in Wilmington in mid-April to attend my cousin’s wedding. On our last day there, we decided to go downtown, and found a place called the Front Street Brewery. Upon reading their menu, I had discovered they carried beer-flavored lip balms. And one of the flavors, the raspberry wheat, is coincidentally the beer that I had drank that day for lunch. So I decided to buy it. When I bought it, I really just did it for novelty purposes. You know, basically so I could tell people “I have beer-flavored lip gloss.” But after trying it, I realized that this stuff IS AMAZING!! I have been on the hunt for the past several months to find a lip balm that would replace one of my very expensive, hard-to-find ones. And my goodness, I certainly found it with y’all! It leaves my lips feeling uber-soft. And if I want a glossy texture I can just apply more. Less glossy?? I apply less. The flavor is AMAZING, and I love the cool sensation it leaves on my lips. Now, I got to tell you, I’ve written celebrities before, and I’ve written restaurants regarding their service, but I’ve never written a company about any product, none the less lip balm! Keep it up, guys. And I can’t wait to pick up some more!

Raspberry Wheat Lip Balm

This wonderful note from Dre’a has inspired us to work more on marketing our lip balms. We have always pushed our soaps and dog products and it seems that the time has come for Lip Balms to take front and center.

So, look for more of Glynne’s Lip Balms in a store near you!

Why Every Small Business Owner Should Be Ready

Last night we decided, on a whim, to go out to dinner.  As we were waiting for our table a man asked us if we owned a business and if we were at the farmers market in Carolina Beach.  We answered “Yes” to both questions and Gayle went on to add that our business was all natural soaps, lotions, lip balm and scrubs.  The woman that was with our new friend asked if our products were for people or dogs.  We naturally said, “Both” and  she mentioned that that is what her partner had said, but she didn’t believe him.

She then told us about her dog with a skin condition and we recommended Roxy Soap for her.  Gayle pulled out a business card and gave it to them, with the promise that we would happily bring them soap if they would give us a call.  As the conversation progressed, we discovered that we live not far from each other (probably less than 2 miles) and had a mutual friend.  It was a nice, spontaneous chat.

It also reminded me of a few things that, as small business owners, we should be aware of all the time.

  • We are always in the public eye.  Just because no one may mention that they have seen us at the farmers market or another festival doesn’t mean that they aren’t thinking it.  We are representing our business everywhere we go.
  • We should always be ready.  You never know when the opportunity to talk about your business might present itself.
  • Always carry business cards (at least).  There have been times when we are out and someone asks us for a card and we don’t have any available.  That is a lost opportunity.  We have gotten in the habit of always having some with us, just in case.

We are very fortunate to receive tons of positive feedback from our customers.  Just yesterday we received an order for Spearmint and Tea Tree Lip Balm followed by this tweet:

lauracogginsFeb 23, 11:26am via WebJust ordered another supply of @glynnesoaps lip balm. Their spearmint & tea tree oil is seriously the best, y’all.

We also received a call from a woman who swears by our Franklyn soap for her dog.  We met her in a church parking lot and delivered her some soap.

All this to say, we have the best customers in the world!  Thank you all for your support, we wouldn’t be where we are without it.  As another thank you we are offering a 15% customer appreciation discount.  Order from our website between now and the end of February and use coupon code THEGREATEST to receive your discount.

We ♥ Glynne’s Soaps Customers

I had been a crazy week here at Glynne’s Soaps! No doubt we will tell you all about it in our next newsletter (which we wanted to send out this week but, just ran out of time).

We met one of our customers this week to deliver some soaps. As she was telling us about her experience with our dog soap, she was kind enough to let me, Gayle, film her testimonial.

We absolutely LOVE our customers and we LOVE hearing your feedback! It really does keep us going!

Summer Protection

Everyone hates mosquitoes! I’m not even convinced mosquito moms love mosquitoes! Our human loathing of the pests have caused us to use some pretty nasty stuff to keep them away. For years, bug repellents containing DEET were used liberally to keep the bugs from biting. Most commercial bug sprays that you can buy at the store today have DEET as their main active ingredient. The only problem with that is that DEET, in the long run, is probably more dangerous than the actual mosquito bite. It can react with skin causing anything from a slight rash to seizure. There have been a few reports of people dying after using products containing DEET. As more and more research is being performed, it is showing that DEET also can cause brain damage after repeated exposure. And to make matters worse, the toxic effects of DEET were increased when it was combined with other chemicals such as those found in sunscreens.

Some people say that DEET is completely harmless, and an effective way to keep the bugs away, but it is a pesticide made from synthetic chemicals. There is nothing natural about it, and as more and more research is being performed regarding the long term effects of this pesticide, it is better to be safe than sorry.

There are, however, all natural alternatives to covering your body with pesticides. Glynne’s Soaps Bug Off Soap and Bug Off Lotion contain 6 natural essential oils that have bug repelling properties*. They have been shown to be effective against mosquitoes, ticks, flies and other biting annoying insects.

Some people have found that applying the lotion after bites (even from fire ants) will reduce the itching and burning.

This summer, use an all natural alternative to chemical pesticides on yourself and your children. It’s the smart choice.

*The FDA has not evaluated statements regarding the uses of essential oils or other ingredients. Glynne’s Soaps makes no claims regarding the use of these essential oils.

Heat, Humidity and BUGS

We live in coastal North Carolina. In the summer, there are really only two topics heat (humidity), and BUGS! Short of staying in the Air Conditioning and avoiding the beautiful outdoors, we have yet to find a solution to heat and humidity but we can help with the bugs.

We have thoroughly enjoyed being at The Carolina Beach Farmer’s Market every Saturday! Not only does it give us the chance to meet people and tell them about our products; it gives us the opportunity to get feedback about our products. There is no better feeling than hearing how much someone enjoys your creation!

Sure it’s great when someone stops and buys our products again but there is a special thrill when some just stops to tell us how well it worked for them or that they made a special trip to Farmer’s Market to see us. Knowing you are making a difference is its own special reward!

Our product that gets the most attention is Bug Off. Our Bug Off is made with a proprietary blend of six (6) different essential oils. Each of which have bug repelling properties. As you might imagine the first question someone asks is, ‘Does it work?’ Naturally, when I answer, there is a certain amount of understood bias but when a user walks up and tells their unbiased experience, we can’t keep enough of it made.

My solution, buy a Flip (affiliate link) and begin to film the testimonials as people shared them at Farmer’s Market.  Last Saturday, I filmed my first testimonial (I was very excited). Now, I want to share it with you.

Makes me wonder, if a picture is worth a Thousand words; what is a video worth? You can get your own Bug Off stick on our website or any Saturday at the Carolina Beach Farmers Market.
