Name That Soap

When I was little I had a Christmas Scratch and Sniff book that I absolutely loved!  It was pulled out of the box every holiday season,  and I spent a lot of time enjoying all the scents.  Some of my favorites were pine, hot chocolate, peppermint and oranges.  I scratched and sniffed until the pictures were faded, but those smells remained.  I’m going to have to ask my mom if she still has that book!

Our all natural Holiday soaps are the same way, they make an appearance every  year, and I love the different scents.

We have decided this year to add a soap to our holiday collection.  It is made with cinnamon and clove essential oils and really captures the spicy feel of the season.  It reminds me of mulled cider on cold days;  just a nice warm feeling.

There are, of course, benefits to these oils that go beyond the great smell.  Both oils are antibacterial and anti-fungal.  Clove oil  also has pain relieving properties.  Cinnamon oil can increase brain function because it stimulates blood flow.  It will also help relieve stiff and achy muscles.  And of course, this soap is made like all of our products – with only the best all natural ingredients and therapeutic grade essential oils.

Our only problem is that we haven’t come up with a name for the soap yet.  This is where we need your help.  Leave a comment giving us your name ideas for the cinnamon and clove soap.  If we use yours, we will give you a bar.  But don’t delay – we will be picking a name at 5:00 this afternoon!

Theme Parties with Glynne’s Soaps

We are ready to get started

Sunday was a first for Glynne’s Soaps.  A few weeks ago we were contacted by a local mom who was interested in a theme party for her daughter’s birthday.  She wanted someone to make soap with the kids. It was an interesting prospect but because we make an all natural from scratch product and not a melt and pour soap, it wasn’t something we could accommodate.  However, we suggested an alternative – Lip Balm! It’s still an all natural product we make from scratch, but after some research and working out some logistics, it was all set.

The kids were able to each make three lip balms, choosing from four different flavors; orange, mint, vanilla or raspberry.  Then they got to design and color their own custom labels.  I think everyone had a great time, I know I did.  Even some moms got in on the action and made a lip balm for themselves.

It was a great activity and in the process we were able to talk to the kids about the importance of all natural products and staying away from the chemicals that are in many soaps, lip balms and other products.  And they got some fun stuff to take home that they designed themselves.

After such a successful outing, we will be adding parties to Glynne’s Soaps list of services.  It’s perfect for almost any age, and we can do many different products including lotions, bath salts, sugar scrubs, candles and, of course, lip balm.

If you or someone you know is interested in discussing details for your next party, just give us a call.  We are happy to help you figure out what would work best for you and your group.

New Products from the Glynne’s Soaps Easter Bunny

We hope everyone had a great Easter vacation and was able to spend some time doing something that makes them happy.  We had a terrific day.  It began on the beach for a sunrise service, then home for breakfast, back to church and then lunch with friends.    This morning of activity was followed by an afternoon of leisure; reading, playing with Marshall and Wrigley and a short nap.

Even though the day was relaxing, it wasn’t all play, we did do a little bit of work.  But it was planning work – the fun kind.  We have been talking lately about expanding our product line, and have even come up with a few ideas for new things that we think would not only fit in with the Glynne’s Soaps all natural business model, but also be fun and exciting.  And yesterday, we ordered the supplies to bring our ideas to life.

We have come up with 3 new products that we will be unveiling next week at AzaleaFest.  There will also be a new lip balm flavor available next weekend, one that we think will cause quite a stir.

We won’t tell you what to expect, just that we think you will be as excited as we are.  Make time next weekend to come see us downtown, and all will be reveled.  Make sure you mention that you read our blog, we love meeting new friends!

An All Natural Riddle

What do you get when you cross a bar of all natural soap, hair from a llama, some elbow grease and a little ingenuity?

Give up?

A llama loofah!

Glynne’s Soaps is proud to unveil one of it’s latest creations – the Llama Loofah.  A Llama Loofah is a bar of all natural soap that has been felted with llama fibers.  The fibers shrink and form a tight weave around the soap.  This creates a loofah with soap inside.  When you use it, you have the exfoliating scrubbiness of a loofah combined with the benefits of all natural soap from Glynne’s Soaps.

Just use the Llama Loofah like a regular bar of soap.  The lather will work it’s way through the felted llama fibers as you scrub, cleaning your skin while exfoliating away the dead skin cells.  As the soap is used, the llama fibers will continue to shrink until the soap is gone.  You can then use the llama fibers as a loofah all on it’s own, or throw it away.

Glynne’s Soaps All Natural Llama Loofah comes in two scents - Hipp”E” (made with patchouli and clove oil) and Citrus Zing (made with orange and ginger oils).  The Llama Loofah makes a great gift.  Get one for everyone on your Christmas list.

Rescue Lip Balm – It Hits the Spot

Gayle, Jenn, Wrigley and Marshall

It’s A Boy!  Glynne’s Soaps is proud to announce the arrival of Marshall.  He’s an 8 month old liver spotted Dalmatian and the newest member of the Glynne’s Soaps family.  Marshall came to us from Marshall, Kentucky by way of Dalmatian Rescue of Southwest Virginia (DRSWV).  DRSWV is a great organization that does wonderful work in Dalmatian rescue, which is a cause very near and dear to our hearts. While picking up Marshall, we learned that they had saved over 160 Dalmatians last year. That makes us love them even more :)

Because of our love for Dalmatians, and to celebrate our new arrival, Glynne’s Soaps is pleased to announce our newest product.  Rescue Lip Balm has been created for you and your dry lips, but a portion of the proceeds will go toward saving Dalmatians that are in need.   Rescue Lip Balm combines the same high quality all natural oils and butters that are found in our other products but also contains carob powder which gives it a chocolate flavor.  Carob was chosen because, unlike chocolate, it is safe for dogs.

Rescue Lip Balm is available from Dalmatian Rescue of Southwest Virginia or you can Buy some today via our website for yourself and your friends!  You can keep your lips soft and support a great cause at the same time!

Nozes and Tozes Balm (Product Spotlight)

Most people have experienced the pain of having dry chapped skin, but did you know that your dog can experience the same painful dry chapped skin on the pads of his feet, his nose and even his elbows.  Harsh winter conditions can lead to cracking of your dog’s nose, and walking on cold surfaces, or surfaces that have been salted to prevent slipping can damage the pads of his feet.

Glynne’s Soaps created “Nozes and Tozes” balm to help combat the dry skin your dog can experience.  Made with all natural vegetable oils, bees wax and Tea Tree and Lavender Essential Oils, Nozes and Tozes is safe to use everyday.  The conditioning oils will soften and soothe the dry areas.  Tea tree oil is antibacterial, antifungal and antviral.  It will help prevent any infections and fight any that might already be present.  Lavender oil is known for its ability to promote healing.

If your dog is suffering from dry cracked pads, nose or other sensitive areas, buy Glynne’s Nozes and Tozes Balm to give them the relief they need.

From the Wilmington Star News

Article from the Wilmington Star News on June 22, 2010.

John Hayes (right) demonstrates how his product, ShellBond, binds with oil and causes it to sink and degrade in salt water. Hayes, whose product is made of oyster shells, has partnered with Gayle Tabor (left) and Jenn Beddoe of Glynne's Soaps to create an oil-repelling soap that can be used to clean wildlife without adding additional dangerous chemicals to the environment.

Two small local companies have joined forces to develop a product with some big ideas.

Glynne’s Soaps and ShellBond have created Sea Soap, an organic liquid made specifically for oil removal. The companies’ owners think it is the perfect all-natural solution for birds and other wildlife affected by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

If you look at the labels of detergents commonly used to clean oily animals, you’ll see hard-to-pronounce chemicals that can be harmful to the environment in their own right, said John Hayes, an oceanographer and founder of ShellBond.

“None of the stuff being used on marine life is organic,” he said. “We’re taking poor birds that have been covered with oil and putting more junk on them and then hoping that they live.”

Hayes, who formerly worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, began making ShellBond about five years ago. It’s formed by a patented process that converts animal bones and marine shellfish, using heat and hydration, into a powder that has a unique crystal with the ability to bond with and absorb oil on water and land.

Since then, he’s been working on developing various uses for ShellBond, including an organic paint and hog lagoon treatment. But when the oil spill happened, Hayes thought it was time to move into high gear.

He searched online to find an organic soap company in Wilmington, and Glynne’s Soaps popped up.

“A few weeks ago he contacted us and was interested in creating a soap product that would remove oil from birds,” said Glynne Soaps co-owner Gayle Tabor. “Being the animal lovers that we are, we were very interested in that project.”

The other half of Glynne’s Soaps, Jennifer Beddoe, who has a master’s degree in chemistry, went to work and had the first batch of Sea Soap ready within a week.

Standing near the north end pier at Carolina Beach on Monday morning with the cries of seagulls and the hum of the ocean in the background, Hayes demonstrated not only the cleaning abilities of Sea Soap using his hands but also the oil remediation qualities of ShellBond on a tray of sand and a pitcher of sea water.

The next step is to receive the funding necessary to manufacture and distribute Sea Soap and ShellBond to those who can use it to mitigate the affects of the oil spill, Hayes said. He envisions a factory in Wilmington.

“We have a product, and there’s obviously a need,” Hayes said. “We just need some seed money to launch this business.

“This is not a fly-by-night thing,” he added. “This is not a bunch of hoopla. This stuff works.”

Glynne’s Soaps is trying to save birds

In case you haven’t heard, there is a big oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Jenn and I have been devastated by the photos and reports of what is happening with the birds (and other wildlife) but like most people we felt powerless.  The we received a phone call from a gentleman who has developed a product call Shellbond which removes oil. He wanted to know if we would partner with him on a project to create a liquid soap that would all naturally remove oil from birds.

We felt we were up to the challenge! we dropped EVERYthing and began our journey to be proactive to affect change in our world. We are pleased to announce that we have a product we are all very pleased with (Sea Soap) … which works.

See the you tube video demonstration:

If you know Jenn and I you know this is a perfect fit for us. Saving Animals is our passion.

Now comes the hard part. Getting this product into the hands of those who can best use it. We know there are thousands of people with ideas and we may be a small fish in a huge ocean, but we are tenacious small fish!
